Spring Planning

I have to apologize for the lack of updates recently. There are many spring time items on the to-do list, all of which require time and attention. But first for some good news.

The flowers are blooming! Aren’t they beautiful!? Despite all the snow and cold recently, they’re blooming, and I just have to smile each time I see them 🙂

Start Planting
Now is the time to be planting flowers and, of course, garden seeds. According to the Farmer’s Almanac, right now you should either plant cool weather crops into the ground, like peas and lettuce, and/or start indoors plants for summer growing, like pumpkins and tomatos. We’re even past-due for a few planting dates, if you can believe that. So if you plan to use seeds this year, check out the best planting dates to make sure you’re on schedule to have a successful harvest this year.

Other Projects
Besides planting, there are several other projects in the works which I’ve told you about but are over due on updates. So for a little accountability between you and me, here are a few things you can expect updates on in the near future:

  • Citrus Cleaner – It’s time to finish up the orange cleaner!
  • Chicken Coop – The chickens are growing fast and we’re working on the coop in between cold and snow days.
  • Cold Frame – I’ve learned a few lessons with the first attempts of growing in the cold frame.
  • Worm Bin – We’re moving our worms to a new bin.

That should be about it for now. I’m sure other things will come along as I remember them. Until then, happy planting! 🙂
